2005: Signing of the Italy-Greece
Intergovernmental Agreement
It establishes the commitment of the Italian and Greek Governments
to support the IGI Project recognising it as a priority for
linking the Italian and Greek gas networks
This agreement has been ratified by the Greek Parliament (law
No. 3441/2006) and the Italian Parliament (law No. 210 of 25
October 2007).
November 2006: Start
of the authorisation procedure for the Italian section of the
Poseidon pipeline
January 2007: Greek
Ministerial Decree Δ1/Γ/1588/24/1/2007
It approves the list of programmed expansions of the Greek national
natural gas transmission system to include the onshore section
of the IGI Project in the Greek territory.
June 2007: Start
of the authorisation procedure for the Greek section of the
Poseidon pipeline
June 2007: Third
Party Access exemption
The Italian Ministry of Economic Development, with the favourable
opinion of the Greek Ministry of Development, the European Commission,
AEEG and RAE, adopted a Decree granting a Third Party Access
Exemption to Edison and Depa for the use of 1.015 Million Normal
Cubic metres per hour of the initial capacity of the pipeline,
for a period of 25 years.
July 2007: Signing
of the Italy-Greece-Turkey Intergovernmental Agreement
This agreement establishes the commitment of the Governments
to the timely realisation of the ITGI corridor and to the finalisation
of the relevant transit agreements with Edison and Depa.
This agreement has been ratified by the Greek Parliament (law.
No. 3637/07.02.2008) and it is under ratification in Turkey
and in Italy.
August 2007: Signing
of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Greece and Azerbaijan
This agreement establishes the interest of the Governments to
possible gas supply agreements between Greece and Azerbaijan
for volumes destined to Italy and Greece via the IGI
Project.
This agreement has been ratified by the Greek Parliament with
Law n. 3638/07.02.2008
November 2007: Edison
& DEPA submit additions related to the EIA study
December 2007: Signing
of the Protocol of Cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan
This agreement establishes the commitment of the Governments
to support the gas supply negotiations between Edison and Socar
for volumes destined to Italy via the IGI Project.
June 2008: Incorporation
of IGI Poseidon S.A.
June 2008: Approval
by AEEG, RAE and the Greek Ministry of Development of the Open
Season procedure for the Poseidon Pipeline
December 2008: Agreement
between Otranto Municipality and IGI Poseidon S.A. on
the construction of the landfall and the onshore facilities
in the Italian territory.
July 2009: Inclusion
of ITGI
Poseidon in the list of the projects eligible to be funded through
the European Energy Plan for Recovery (EU Regulation
663/09).
July 2009: MoU
among Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD, Depa S.A. and Edison S.p.A.
for the development of the branch to Bulgaria of the ITGI project,
namely the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria. IGI Poseidon will
own 50% of the company that will build and operate the new pipeline
from Komotini to Stara Zagora.
November 2009: Submission
of the Preliminary Environmental Assessment Study for the Greek
section of the Poseidon Pipeline to the Greek Ministry
for the Environment, Energy and Climatic Change.
The development and realisation of the Poseidon project, as
part of the ITGI
Corridor, is contributing to create an
institutional and regulatory framework for the import
of gas from the Caspian and Middle East countries to Europe.
This framework will further enhance the development of gas production
in the Caspian Basin and Middle East area.
