| The environmental impact
report |
The Poseidon project is subject to two environmental impact
assessment processes, one for the Greek section and one for
the Italian section. According to what is foreseen by the Espoo
Convention, authorisation to proceed will be given by both
countries through a single joint decision.
Edison and Depa have already thoroughly analysed the project's
impact on the:
| • |
air |
 |
| • |
aquatic environment |
 |
| • |
ground and subsoil |
 |
| • |
vegetation, flora, fauna and ecosystems |
 |
| • |
noise |
 |
| • |
landscape |
 |
| • |
human ecosystems |
The project is consistent with the model of sustainable development
and presents limited fully mitigable environmental impact.
All field activities will be conducted in such a way as to avoid
interference with each area's tourist season and activities.
Moreover, the pipeline, identical in its design and operating
features to 30.000 km of high pressure natural gas pipeline
already existing in Italian territory and to the over 8.500
km gas pipeline network in the Greek territory, has been designed
taking all the national and international security norms and
standards into account. |
